1 Peter 1:4 KJV [4] “to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,” To be saved from the fiery flames of Hell is enough for every child of God to shout about. What a joy we have as believers to know that we will never have to face the awful pit prepared for the Devil and his demons, and we do not have to fear the Great White Throne Judgment. The lake of fire will never be our home! These thoughts alone bring comfort to the saved. But God has much …
“A Lively Hope”
1 Peter 1:3 KJV [3] “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,” The word translated as “blessed” comes from the Greek word that gives us our English word “eulogy.” It means to praise something or someone. Here, God is being praised for our salvation and redemption. What a joy to know that salvation is provided and is ours for the keeping! There is no greater blessing than to know you are redeemed. …
“The Foreknowledge of God”
1 Peter 1:2 KJV [2] “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.” You and I have no idea who will be saved. We understand through the Scriptures that it is God’s will for all men to be saved. That means that all men can be saved, if they repent and believe the Gospel. We wholeheartedly reject the false doctrine of Calvinism. No one becomes a Calvinist from reading the Bible. The only way to become …
“Strangers in This World”
1 Peter 1:1 KJV [1] “Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,” The name Peter comes from the word “petros”, which means stone. Peter is writing to Jewish Christians scattered among the Gentiles. He begins this epistle by listing the five providences of Asia Minor, north of Palestine. It is interesting that verse one starts with Peter the little stone, then moves to Jesus Christ, the great Savior, and finally to the scattered strangers in this world. The world has not changed its philosophy about Christianity today. They …
