“A Personal Relationship”

1 John 1:1 KJV
[1] That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

There are three beginnings in the Bible. They are found in Gen.1:1; John 1:1; and 1 John 1:1. Genesis emphasizes the Creator on the morning of creation. John emphasizes the Creator in the manifestation of Christ. 1 John emphasizes the Creator through the message of a Christian.

John wants us to know that he and the other disciples had a personal relationship with the Word of life. He mentions four intimate details in this verse concerning the kind of relationship he had with Jesus. First, he had heard his voice. Second, he had seen him with his eyes. Third, he had studied his life. Fourth, he had felt his touch.

What kind of relationship do you have with the Word of Life? If you desire to hear his voice, then read his word. If you want to see his face, then believe his word. If you want to know more about his life, then study his word. If you need to feel his touch, then live by his word.

You and I can have that same personal relationship with Jesus through the Word of God. Jesus is the living Word, and the Bible is the written Word. Allow me to challenge you to spend more time with the words of life.
