1 John 1:4 KJV
[4] And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
Our verse for today will cause us to reflect on the earlier verses we have studied. Here we see John has written with a specific purpose in mind. He wants believers to have the fullness of joy. The “things” he has written about in the preceding verses all pertain to Jesus. John had experienced the joy of knowing Jesus and he wanted others to experience this same joy also.
The fullness of his joy was that he knew Jesus on a personal level. It is plain to see in verse one that he had put his faith in the Savior. This is how he heard his voice, saw his face and felt his touch. You can never know Jesus apart from putting your faith and trust in him. John believed in Jesus and this brought him joy.
The fullness of John’s joy was also in the fact that he knew Jesus on a powerful level. He saw the manifestation of his life in verse two. John knew the joy of seeing his power on display. He saw Jesus perform miracles in the life of people. He watched him change their lives and give them joy. The power of Jesus brings joy to all who witness it.
Finally, the fullness of his joy is seen in that he knew Jesus on a productive level. John knew that what he had experienced and received others could as well. We can find the joy of knowing Jesus by sharing him with others. Try sharing Jesus with someone today and see if it does not produce joy in your life.
