1 John 1:5 KJV
[5] This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
The light of God is seen in his world. On the first morning of creation God caused the light to shine out of darkness, (Gen.1:3). When his Son was on the cross he turned the light out in this world for 3 hours. Because he created the light he can control the light. He created the sun, the moon, and the stars that shine upon us daily. Creation is God’s visible proof he is light.
The light of God is seen in his Word. Psalm 119:130 says, “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” The light of God can be seen in the pages of his Word. The Bible drives the darkness out of our lives and allows us to see God clearly. Creation declares God is light and so does the Bible.
The light of God is seen in his workers. Matthew 5:14 says, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” The believer is also proof that God is light. The change that salvation makes in the hearts of men reveals this great truth. Once we have been changed, we have both the duty and the desire to declare God’s light to others. Because the child of God has experienced the light, he can express it to all the world. John is illustrating this in our text. Note that in verse five you have a child of God, (his worker), declaring the truth of God, (his word), that God is light, (to all his world).
