“Living in the Son-light”

1 John 1:7 KJV

[7] But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

The happiest life is not living in the sunlight of God’s world, but rather living in the Son-light of God’s Word. John gives three precious treasures in this verse that believers find when walking in the light of his Word.

First, we find Christ in the light. When we walk in the light of his word we experience the reality of his presence. We see him working in our lives. We hear his voice speaking to our hearts. If you want to be closer to him, draw away from the darkness that he may be in your life. Separate yourselves from anything and everything that Christ would not be pleased with. Christ will not be found in the dark alleys of sin but in the light of his word.

Second, we find Christians in the light. Christians are drawn to the light. Jesus is the common denominator that brings us all together. We enjoy one another because we enjoy Him. This is what makes our fellowship so wonderful. Think about all the people you would not have met had you not become a Christian. God has placed us in his family and given us brothers and sisters in Christ to help strengthen and enrich our walk with him.

Finally, we find cleansing in the light. A dark room doesn’t look bad until the light is turned on. The light shines and reveals the dirt. The light of the word of God does the same in our lives. Once the dirt of our sin is revealed, we have the promise of cleansing through the blood of Jesus. These are three great treasures that can only be found in the Son-light.
