1 John 1:10 KJV
[10] If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
God desires to fellowship with his children. He loves each and every one of us and does not want sin to interrupt the closeness that we can have together with him. Several verses in this chapter have placed emphasis on us taking responsibility, confessing, and forsaking our sins. John has showed us both the benefits and consequences of our actions when it comes to facing our sins.
This verse simply teaches us to take ownership in this matter. We should always be in agreement with God and the Bible when it comes to any subject, but especially this one. Denial of our sin, as we have already seen, leads to deception. Deception just leads to more disobedience.
A believer that is filled with the Spirit is constantly taking inventory of his or her life. They know that each day we live in a sinful flesh and a sinful world. They know that there are sins of omission and sins of commission. They know that if the Holy Spirit reveals something in their life that is displeasing to God then they must take ownership for it.
To act as though we have no sin is sin within itself. The first step to realizing you need Christ is understanding you are a sinner. You realize you have a sin nature and that sin is ever present. This does not change when we get saved but becomes more of a reality. Taking ownership of our sins and confessing them to God pleases the Father.
