“The Sins of the Whole World”

1 John 2:2 KJV
[2] And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Think for a moment about all the sins you have committed. The sins of omission and the sins of commission. They are more than you could ever recall, and these are just your past sins. Now think about your present sins. How many are there? They, too, are more than you can count. If you were to begin confessing them right now, it would take the Holy Spirit to bring them to light, so you could confess each one of them. Finally, consider the sins of your future. This is beyond our knowledge, for no individual knows how many sins he or she will commit the rest of their lives. Remember, we are only talking about your sin, and yours alone is an unmeasurable amount of sin.

Now let’s consider an earth-shaking number of sins. Let’s pile the sins of the whole world on top of your sins. We are not just talking about the present world, but we are talking about the sins of all humanity. From Adam in the garden, to the last individual that will be born, that will live, and that will die. This goes beyond our human comprehension. Only God could know every single sin of every single human that has, is, and will live upon this earth.

What’s more overwhelming than our sins, is our Savior! If he was only the propitiation for your sin, that would be impressive. But the fact that Christ could appease God for the sins of the whole world is glorious! His blood washes away every man’s sin. Christ is the hope for every man of every race, creed and color. He was the propitiation yesterday, he still is today, and he will be tomorrow. What a great verse, and what great truth to share with someone today.
