“Assurance in Obedience”

“Assurance in Obedience”
1 John 2:3 KJV
[3] And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

Our verse before us tells us how to know for sure if we truly know him. I’m thankful we have a book that helps us to have this assurance. There are so many in the world who have never met him. Then there are those who have met him but have lost the assurance as to whether or not they really do know him. God wants us to live with the knowledge of our salvation. The knowledge of salvation brings us the assurance of our salvation. Even with all the confusion that is in the world today, the Bible makes this very simple.
Throughout the book of 1 John, we will come across verses that will give us instructions on how we can know if we truly know him. John is bringing to light that a believer cannot live in a right fellowship with God if they are not assured that they have a right relationship with God. There is a great difference between relationship and fellowship. Once a believer’s relationship has been settled and they know that they know him, then they can move forward in knowing him more in fellowship.
This assurance comes through obedience. The condition in our verse for having assurance is based on obedience. We are to learn his commandments and keep them. This means living a life of obedience. Obedient believers live in victory and faith. Disobedient believers live in doubt and confusion. Oftentimes, people doubt their salvation and lose their assurance because they have unconfessed sins in their lives. The more we obey him, the closer we get to him and the stronger our fellowship becomes with him. It is very simple, obedience brings assurance and assurance brings the knowledge that we know him. Choose to live your life today in obedience to his word.
