1 John 2:4 KJV
[4] He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
Many people profess to know Christ, but their lives say otherwise. They are good at talking the talk but not walking the walk. This is not my judgment nor the judgment of others, but it’s just a simple fact. They are saying one thing, and their lives say another. The scripture we read today calls them a liar. It goes even further to say the truth is not in them. They are classified in our verse as false witnesses.
The world is filled with false witnesses. The Bible says we know them because they do not keep his commandments. How many people do we know who say they are saved, yet they have no desire to please God in their daily lives. Christians have a desire to follow his command. We may fail God and even disobey him at times in our lives. However, a true child is grieved when they commit sin. They are so grieved that they want to make their relationship right with God and get back in obedience to his will. They cannot continue to live a lie and have any joy or peace.
This is not true with false witnesses. They can continue living the lie. It does not bother them to profess their faith and continue in sin because it’s all empty words. Remember just saying it so does not make it so. Obedience to the commands of the scriptures reveals to the world what you really have. Disobedience to the commands of the scriptures reveals to the world what you do not have. Those who know the truth, love the truth and walk in the truth. Does your life line up with the truth? Does your life support your testimony? Being a witness for Christ is not just revealed in our talk, but it’s revealed in our walk.
