“Walk the Talk”

1 John 2:6 KJV
[6] He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

The principle in our verse is very practical. An individual who professes to know Christ should walk as Christ walked. We should not just profess Christianity with our lips but also with our lives. We should walk the talk. The world has no respect for an individual who only praises Christ with their vocabulary. The world is spiritually blind and walks by sight. They need to see us walking in the footsteps of our savior.

The key word in our verse is abide. A carnal believer has no effect on the world because he is not abiding in the presence of Christ. When we abide in him he changes our lives drastically. He changes our speech, manner of dress, the crowd we run with, our desires and many other things about us. Abiding Christians have a different focus on life. They have inward joy and peace beyond understanding. This creates an even greater hunger to walk as he walks. We understand the riches of a personal relationship in the Lord.

Abiding in Christ is what gives us the ability to walk the talk. There is no way we can do this in our own power and strength. We must have his help in our lives to walk as he commands us to. There is no struggle when we abide in him. Walking the walk can be as simple as talking the talk when it is done in the power of the Spirit rather than the energy of our flesh. The answer is to abide. Let Christ’s word do the leading, you and I do the following and our lives do the talking. This will cause the world to take note of what salvation can do in us and through us. Make it your goal today to walk the talk.
