1 John 2:11 KJV
[11] But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
It is possible for a man to have eyes that can physically see and still live a blinded life. What is even more surprising is for a man to have his spiritual eyes open and live a blinded life. You might ask yourself how this could happen. How can a man see physically and spiritually yet live as though he could not see at all?
The answer is rather simple. The man in our verse is blind, not because he cannot see, but because he chooses not to see. He has chosen to walk the dark alley of hatred. He knows it’s a dark trail and he knows there is no light along the way, but he chooses to walk its path in spite of the darkness.
Just because you and I have physical eyes that can see, it does not mean we can walk the dark alleys of this world without any light. We must have light on our path. We cannot put blinders on our eyes and expect to see through them. As foolish as this sounds, there are those who have chosen to be blinded by hatred toward another. Friend, no matter how saved you are, or how spiritual you think you may be, hatred will blind your eyes. It will cause you to lose your way in this world because you are leaving the light of God’s Word whenever you hate. As our verse says, “knoweth not whither he goeth”.
Those who profess to know Christ but have no genuine love for the brethren are living a false profession. When sinners get saved, they step out of the darkness into the light. They become a part of the family of God and demonstrate genuine love toward their brothers and sisters in Christ.
