“Helping the Young ”
1 John 2:14 KJV
[14] I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
John again reminds the fathers and young men why he has written to them. The fathers are the spiritual leaders of the church, and the young men are the strong warriors of the church. The young have received a personal admonishment from him in verse twelve, but here John has a different purpose in mind. He does not address the young but has a message to other believers that will help them.
John knew the value of helping those who were young in their faith. He also knew the blessing of one believer aiding another. There are several areas from which we draw our spiritual strength. The scriptures, the Spirit, the sanctuary and service are only a few of those areas. The saints of God are another area from where we draw strength. We have the ability to serve others, and it is a blessing to do so.
Remember, we all need help and we can all help one another. Especially those who are young in the faith. If you are a young Christian, recognize that God has surrounded you with saints who can help you. If you are one who has been a Christian for a while, then remember that it was not that long ago that you sat where they are. Help strengthen the young. If you are an aged Christian, do not get frustrated with the lack of maturity seen in those who are young. Your ministry is to be patient with them and help them along the road of life. Finally, we must all remember those who have helped us, and those who are helping us. Pray for God to put wiser and stronger saints in your path as you go through life. While ministering, guard against pride and the arrogance of thinking that you are something special. Humility alone will greatly help the young.
