“Worldly Passings”

1 John 2:17 KJV

[17] And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

This verse contains a world that is passing and a will that is profitable. If we as believers pursue the will of God over the things of this world, then we have an assurance that it will profit us in this world and in the world to come. God’s will is permanent, and the world is passing.

Time is forever passing in this world. Man cannot stop time, nor can he make more time. Each of us has an allotted time given by God to live in this world. If we are slothful and lazy, time will pass us by. Time waits for no man, for it has a destination also. One day time will be no more.

Treasures are forever passing. Things are handed down from one generation to another. With the most careful preservation and security, they are eaten away by moths and rust. Sometimes they are stolen by thieves, just as Jesus predicted. The treasures of this world will not last forever, because they are not meant to last forever. They are passing away in the rust and the dust of this world.

Titles are forever passing. No position of authority or royalty in this world is forever. Kings and queens, presidents and prime ministers who serve today are only filling the shoes of others who walked before them. They will one day lay down their position of honor to another, because titles are not forever. They are passing with the world every day.

Though the world passes away, the things of God are eternal! His word, his will and his work will stand forever and ever. One day we will live in a world that will never pass away. We will live with Christ our King!
