“Spiritual Guidance”

1 John 2:20 KJV

[20] But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

The word “unction” is translated from the Greek word, “chrisma”, which means “the anointed One”. The word Christ stems from this same word. Though the person of Christ is not with us, he was with the apostles, but his Spirit is with us today. The presence of Jesus lives in our hearts through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Every true believer is indwelled with the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation.

Once the Holy Spirit moves into our heart, he immediately begins to work in our lives. He gives the new believer understanding of the scriptures and speaks to him in a personal manner. The Spirit of God never guides us against the word of God. They are always in perfect harmony with each other.

The Spirit’s guidance is important when it comes to false doctrine. Many have tried to overcome false doctrine by studying the occults. There is no need for us to spend hours studying heresy. We should not waste our time trying to learn all we can about the apostates of our day. We are instructed to know the truth. The more we read and understand the Bible, the more we will be able to identify the heresy. The Holy Spirit will turn the light on in our hearts when we are faced with anything that is not sound. As believers, we should be inspired to grow for the Lord. We should yield to the “Holy One” in our lives and allow the fullness of his Spirit to control us. Being filled with the scriptures and with the Spirit will give us all the knowledge and wisdom we will need to serve God effectively. Daily prayer and Bible study are essential for every child of God. It not only strengthens us inwardly, but it guides us outwardly into the right way. Make bible reading, prayer and yielding to the Spirit a part of your everyday routine.
