1 John 2:22 KJV
[22] Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
I recently read an article on the study of lying. Psychologists say the average person lies two to three times every 10 minutes. While reading the article, I must confess, I wondered if it was true or a lie. It certainly sounds unbelievable.
There are three things that never cease to amaze me about lying. Those who tell the lie, the content of the lie and those who choose to believe the lie. Some are very clever when it comes to telling a lie, and others should give it up all together. This reminds me of a lady who was renting in an apartment complex. The landlord had a strict rule that tenants could have cats living in their apartment, but not dogs. Whenever the renter was reported for her dog barking, she replied to her landlord that, “she would never have a dog, this was a special breed of cat, that was called a dog-cat”.
There is no other way for me to say it, but the women in the story told a big fat lie. A lie that was so far from the truth that it seemed beyond reason. Even though that was a big lie, it’s not the biggest lie ever told. The biggest lie ever told is found in our text. To say that Jesus is not the Christ is the world’s biggest lie. This is a lie that the world has been trying to convince each other of since Christ came into this world. Those who proclaim this lie are clearly called liars here in the word of God.
The way to defeat these anti-Christs is by spreading the truth of the gospel. A lie may sprint ahead of the truth to start with, but be patient, truth always prevails in the end. One day the embodiment of truth, Jesus, will cast the father of lies, Satan, into the lake of fire. Heaven will be all about Jesus, and we will live every day in truth. We will live in a land where there are no lies or deceptions. ls
