1 John 2:24 KJV
[24] Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
Salvation not only delivers our soul from hell but gives us a friend that is like no other. Proverbs 18:24 says, “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother”. We know that friend is Jesus! He abides with us just as he said he would in John chapter fifteen.
How is this possible? Scripture teaches us that while Jesus is at the right hand of the Father, he has not left us alone. He has given us his Spirit in our hearts to abide with us. This means from the moment of salvation the Spirit moves in and works in our lives. He is there constantly to help us whenever and wherever he is needed. He will guide us, comfort us, convict us and instruct us if we will be sensitive to him.
The Holy Spirit will never lead us astray from the Father nor the Son. Just as they are in perfect harmony, a believer who is yielded to the Spirit will be in harmony. What a blessing to know that his Spirit lives within us. What assurance to know he will continue to abide with us.
Christ made every provision necessary for us before he left this world. He did not leave us comfortless. His command is that we abide in him. We can abide in him through daily prayer and daily Bible reading. These are essentials for maintaining a healthy and happy relationship with the Father and the Son. Allow his Spirit to control your life. Do not struggle through life by trying to serve God in your own power and strength. Abide in Christ and find the rest you need. p with
