1 John 2:27 KJV
[27] But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
The ministry of the Holy Spirit is clearly seen in the Word of God. John 16:7-11 teaches us that he has a ministry of reproving the world. In John 3:1-8 he has a ministry of regenerating the lost. The Holy Spirit also has a ministry of restraining the wicked in 2 Thess. 2:3-8.
The Spirit’s work in the life of a believer is just as evident through the New Testament. In 1 Cor. 12:13, he baptizes the believer into the body of Christ. In Romans 8:8, he gives the believer gifts. And, according to Eph. 1:13, he seals the believer at the moment of salvation. Once he indwells the believer, he then actively fills the believer as he surrenders to his leadership.
Our verse gives us five amazing truths about the Holy Spirit’s ministry. First, we see that he abides in us. Second, he is always the same. Third, he teaches us all things. Fourth, he only teaches us what is true. And finally, he will never teach us a lie. Time would not allow us to comment on these wonderful blessings, but it should encourage us to walk in the Spirit daily.
Too often we are guilty of ignoring his ministry and leadership in our lives. We try to handle things ourselves when we don’t have to. We should look to the Spirit for guidance and allow his ministry to be fulfilled within us. Our ministry should be allowing his ministry to take hold of us every day. Allow the Spirit to control you and lead you in the direction God wants for your life.
