“A Cinderella Story!”

1 John 3:2

[2] Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Most of us can remember from our childhood days, the fairytale “Cinderella.” We recall the evil step mother and her two daughters who mistreated the damsel and saw her only as a slave to their household. Cinderella was poor, unwanted and unloved by those whom she served daily. Her life seemed hopeless, until one day a fairy godmother granted her a wish that brought her to the palace of a prince. The prince fell instantly in love with her. He sought after Cinderella and rescued her. He then took her to the palace, where she became his wife and they lived happily ever after.

This story is a beautiful piece of literature that has been read and enjoyed by many. The only problem is that none of it is true. It is just a fairytale. However, our text gives us a true Cinderella story. It reminds us of how we were just like the character in the story. A slave to this world, unwanted and unloved. We were mistreated by the devil, with no hope in sight. Then the Lord came along and sought us through tender compassion and love. He rescued us from the prison of sin we were in and brought us into the family of God.

Our story may not seem like much of a Cinderella story at the present, but it could change at any moment. The Prince of Peace will one day come riding in, and we are going to be changed from rags to riches. We will be swept away by love and carried to His palace. His bride will then be complete, and we will enjoy the pleasures in His palace and live happily ever after. Our Cinderella story is true and will happen when He shall appear!
