1 John 3:9
[9] Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
Every time I read this verse, I think of the beloved evangelist who preached a revival at our church on our position verses our condition. We know that John is not teaching sinless perfection, because in chapter one and verse nine, he tells us what a Christian is to do when they sin. John understands that our position cannot change, but our condition is always changing. Our position depends upon Christ, and our condition depends upon us.
Thank the Lord, that one of these days, our position and our condition will be the same. When this takes place, our position and condition will be glorification. What a day this is going to be! We will no longer struggle with this sinful flesh. The seed that has been planted on the inside is going to blossom forth with glorified life!
A true child of God understands what it means to have this seed living on the inside. We cannot enjoy the pleasures of sin like we once did, before we were born again. Our spirit has been alive in Christ, and sin no longer has dominion over us. Even though the flesh is not saved and glorified yet, our position is glorious. The seed living in us gives us the victory we need to continue serving God. I encourage you to take a few moments and reflect on where you were before salvation, and where you are now. Think about the old you, in contrast to the new you that is in Christ. If you have been saved, then you can see clearly the difference salvation makes. It changes your position, and then begins the immediate work on your condition.
