“A Lovely Message”

1 John 3:11

[11] For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

The admonishment in our text is to love one another. How much better would our world be today if believers practiced this verse daily? When I look at this verse, I see three reasons why we should love one another. Allow me to share them with you briefly.

The first reason is, because this is the message. This is what our verse says to each one of us. This is not John’s message, but this is God’s message. Every time the Lord gives us a message, we should pay close attention to it, and take it seriously.

The second reason is, because this message has been from the beginning. This is not some new message that has not previously been proclaimed. We have a message that can be seen in the Old Testament. Whenever God created man, he taught man how to love. Adam experienced God’s love for him as an individual. God then gave Eve to Adam, to share the garden with. When they sinned, on that awful day in the garden, they saw and felt God’s love and mercy. All throughout the pages of his Word, we read of God’s love for man. Christ spoke about his love, then proved it on the cross, when he died for our sins.

The final reason we should love one another is, because we have one another to love. Think about how God has used the brethren to help strengthen your life. Where would we be without a good church to attend? What would our life be like if we had to serve God alone, without Christian fellowship? We should never take our brothers and sisters in Christ for granted.  May the Lord help us share this message of love to some brother today.
