“Has the Truth Taken Root?”

1 John 3:19

[19] And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

Our salvation is assured by the Word of God, the Work of Christ, and the Witness of the Spirit. The deeds that we do are by no means the foundation of our salvation, but they do assure our hearts that faith has taken root in our lives. It has been said many times that, “works do not produce faith, but that genuine faith does produce works.” The bottom line is, that when we are truly saved, we will have assurance. There will be a deep settled peace on the inside that we are born again. We will know that the truth has taken root!

This entire epistle gives us nuggets of truth that let us know we belong to him. The Holy Spirit will use the Word of God to convince us, within our hearts, that we are saved. Now we know that our heart is deceitful and can lead us astray, according to the scriptures. However, when we fill our hearts with the Word of God, and place our faith in the work of Christ, then the Spirit will guide our hearts into the truth. This is what provides us with this wonderful assurance. There is no greater joy than knowing you are saved.

Those who walk in darkness and deception do so because of one of these two reasons. They have either never heard the truth, or they have chosen not to believe the truth. This is what causes a deceived soul that has no assurance within. Those of us who have heard the truth, and believed the truth, have a great responsibility to share it with others. We must help them find the same peace that we have found. Ask yourself today, do you have that assurance in your heart? Has the truth taken root in your heart? If the answer is yes, then share the truth with someone today. You never know when it is going to take root in some lost soul that is searching.
