1 John 3:24
[24] And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
This would seem to be a strange title to a lost soul, but not to those who have been redeemed. As the song writer said, “Never alone, no never alone, he promised never to leave me, never to leave me alone”. What a great promise to the child of God! When we accept Christ as our Savior, John tells us that his Spirit abides in us.
My question for you dear reader is, “Who’s living inside of you?” Are you alone without Christ? Do you not have the Spirit living within you? It is impossible to be saved, and possess his Spirit in your heart, and not know it.
Believers are indwelled with the Spirit, but they are also to walk in the Spirit, and be filled with the Spirit. We do this by keeping his commandments. Keeping his commandments keeps sin out of our lives and allows the Spirit of God to lead us. There is no greater joy than when we are abiding in him and letting the Spirit control us.
Whenever the Spirit controls our lives it brings peace and joy. The Spirit gives us wisdom and guidance for daily living. The Spirit empowers us for service when we yield to him. The Spirit also gives us great assurance that we belong to Christ. What a privilege it is that we don’t have to be alone. I’m so glad we have his presence living on the inside. If you are one to doubt or struggle with your salvation, then allow the Spirit of God to settle it for you. He will either convict or convince you of your need. If he is living on the inside, he will make himself known to you. If he is not living on the inside, he will let you know that as well. It is never the job of the Holy Spirit to cause confusion. Get into his word, and seek his guidance, and he will bring you to the knowledge of the truth.
