1 John 4:11
[11] “Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.”
Heaven will be a place of no misunderstandings. There will be no division or separation in the glory world. It is going to be a place of eternal happiness and love among the family of God. What a time God’s people will experience as we live together and serve our Creator and our King!
However, we are not in heaven right now. God’s children need each other more in this present world than ever before. Too often Satan gets the advantage because the brethren allow circumstances and things to come between them. The devil works constantly to try to divide saints, and cause ungodly feelings in their hearts toward each other. Think about how much greater the work of God would be today if saints would come together and resolve their differences.
The reason we don’t see this happening is because of the pride and pressure among the brethren. If you and I are not careful, we can adopt the school yard mentality of choosing sides or showing love to a certain brother or sister, based on what others have said about them. The truth of our text is that it just makes sense, that if God would love someone as rotten as you and me, then we ought to show the same love toward them.
So what if they trample your love or spurn your love? Did we not treat the love of God this same way? We are most like God when we show love, and we are most like Satan when we show hatred or bitterness. I’ve never had anyone treat me any worse than I’ve treated Him. We don’t like to discuss it, but the fact is, that God loves man in spite of himself and not because of himself. It just makes sense that if someone as Holy and righteous as God could love someone as wicked and sinful as us, then we can surely love others. We can especially love our brothers and sisters in Christ. It just makes sense.
