“The Key That Unlocks The Door”

1 John 5:10

[10] “He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.”

The key word in this verse is the word, “believeth”. John mentions it three times in our text. We know that Christ is the only door to heaven. He declared this truth himself in the gospel of John. In order for someone to get to heaven, they must go through the door. They must go through the Lord Jesus Christ. All are welcome to go through this door, and enter in. The key that opens this door, is the key of faith. This is why John places so much emphasis on the word, “believeth”.

Imagine with me, there is a man standing on the outside of a luxurious palace. He has a key in his hand. The realtor tells him that everything he has ever wanted, and everything he will ever need, is on the other side of that door. He puts a documented paper in his hand, with his name on it, stating that if he will just use the key to unlock the door, and go in, he can have it all. The realtor tells him that the one who owns it all, and is willing to give it all to him, is waiting for him on the other side of that door. All he has to do is use the key that he was given, go in, and claim the promise.

The man now has the record in one hand, the key in the other hand and a witness who will testify for him. All he has to do is use the key that unlocks the door. Sadly, the man walks away in unbelief. He fails to trust what’s been recorded. He fails to trust the one on the other side of the door. He fails to use the key that was placed in his hand. God has given every man a measure of faith. He must choose for himself whether or not he’s going to use it. He must decide if he is going to accept Christ by faith.
