2 John 2 KJV
[2] “For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.”
John is emphasizing the truth in the early verses of this epistle. He is wanting to warn this elect lady, and her children, concerning the lies of false teachers. In verse one, he speaks about a love for the truth, and a knowledge of the truth. Then in verse two, he speaks about the triumph of the truth. Truth will last forever! What a blessing to know that every lie will one day be washed away by God’s eternal truth!
If we look closely, there is an even greater blessing in verse two. The Bible declares that this truth dwells within the believer. Whenever an individual is saved, God’s Spirit takes his abode in their heart. The Spirit of truth connects us with the Word of truth. The Holy Spirit reveals to us the truths of God’s Word, and gives us understanding. He enlightens us, and places these truths within us.
Truth within us gives us victory, peace, and joy. These are qualities that the world does not possess, because the world does not know the truth. The Bible is our guide and stability in this world. We have blessed assurance, because of what God said, not because of how we feel. Our belief is built upon facts, and not feelings. Feelings will come and go, but as stated in our text, truth shall be with us forever.
The more truth an individual knows, the freer he will live. Make it your goal in life to be a student of the Word of God. Build your life around the truth, and stand upon its principles and teachings. Take the time to share the truth with those who do not know, or may not have heard, the Word of God. Always take the time to thank God that you had the privilege of knowing, hearing, and receiving the truth.
