“Three Precious Friends”

2 John 3 KJV

[3] “Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.”

Our verse opens with, what I like to call, three precious friends. I want to introduce them to you. The first is Mr. Grace, the second is Mr. Mercy, and the third is Mr. Peace. If you are saved, then you can testify that you know each of them quite well. They have been sent to you from God the Father, and his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, in all truth and love. Everything I just said is contained in this one verse. What a blessing to know these individuals, and have them to help us on our journey.

Mr. Grace is present at the birth of a child of God, and is fully committed to helping him cross the river into the celestial city. He will be there in his time of need, to give him strength whenever it is needed. Mr. Grace blesses God’s children on their journey, to remind them how much the Father loves and cares for them. He is a true friend to the believer each day that he lives.

Mr. Mercy has been in the believer’s life longer than he would ever be able to acknowledge. He has walked beside him as both a sinner, and a saint. Before his conversion, when he should have been in hell, Mr. Mercy kept him from getting what he deserved. During all of his times of foolishness, and unbelief, he was held in the arms of Mr. Mercy, when Mr. Wrath was ready to come in to proclaim rightful justice. Mr. Mercy still follows along to help God’s child find forgiveness whenever it is needed.

Mr. Peace is a friend that gives calmness and stability, even when God’s child has no answer, or understanding. He whispers to the traveler, “everything is going to be alright”, whenever his world is falling apart. He stays with him, and smothers him with his presence, at the crossing from this life into the next.

These are three precious friends that will be with us, as our verse says, until we see the Father, and the Son, face to face.
