“Threats and Thieves”

2 John 8 KJV

[8] “Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.”

We are quickly given the admonition in this verse to keep our eyes open! Do not allow heresy to overtake you. False doctrines and teachers are nothing to take lightly. They are everywhere, and should be considered both a threat, and a thief. False teachers never produce, or build anything. They simply prey on the weak and vulnerable, and steal from the fold.

They should be regarded as thieves, and avoided like the plague. If you lend them an ear, they may not only deceive you, but their poisonous doctrines could cost you eternal rewards at the judgement seat. I am not indicating the loss of any man’s salvation. We understand that salvation is eternal, and that no man, or devil in Hell, can cause a believer to lose their salvation.

However, they can prevent you from receiving a full reward at the judgement seat of Christ. False doctrine can get a believer off course, and cause them to miss the will of God for their life. I have seen young converts with great promise for the ministry get side tracked, and fall into false doctrine. The end result is that they will never live up to the potential the Lord had intended for them.

Calvinism is on the rise, and there are those in our realm who have flirted with this false doctrine. The fact is, that no one becomes a Calvinist from reading the Bible. In order to believe this false doctrine, you have to read after another Calvinist. This will rob an individual of receiving the soul winner’s crown at the judgement seat. This is one example of how false teachers are both a threat, and a thief ,to those who are willing to listen.
