“The Gifts of God”

 James 1:17

[17] “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

Every good gift that we have received in life has come from God. God can only give good gifts, so if what we receive is not good, then it did not come from God. This does not mean that we can always see God’s goodness in his gifts, but one day it will be very clear to us.

We should remember that God’s gifts are better than Satan’s bargains. Satan never gives anyone anything for free. He never gives a gift because he cares, his motive is always to gain and destroy the individual. In fact, instead of calling it a gift, I would call it a trick. That is because His gifts are never as they appear.

Our verse tells us that God’s gifts are good, and they are perfect. Think about some of the gifts that you have received from Him: the gifts of health and strength; the gifts of family and friends; the gifts of life and liberty; and the gifts of eternal salvation and eternal security.

Our verse also teaches that there is not the slightest variation in the Lord’s gifts. The gifts of God are not just good and perfect, but they are constant. He gives gifts to us every single day. God does not give to us because we are good, but because He is good. Look around you today and see how God has showered you with his gifts.

Remember, we can rest in His gifts. There is no shadow of turning when it comes to God giving us gifts. This means that He will never stop giving to His children. I close with the greatest gift ever given, His Son! Oh, what a gift! Jesus is the perfect gift that keeps on giving to those who receive Him.
