“What Right Do We Have?”

James 2:4 KJV

[4] “Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?”

Truthfully, nobody wants to be mistreated. Nobody wants to be judged by men, nor do we want them to show partiality toward us. We would not think much of a person who would treat us, or our loved ones, that way. However, the question we must ask is, “Have I been guilty of showing partially and prejudging others?”

It is so easy to read these verses and see the sins of others but not ourselves. Pointing out the faults of others never benefits us spiritually. It is a form of judging within itself. Lord, help me not to be any man’s judge but to examine myself. It should be our goal to treat others as we would want them to treat us. We should be fair and balanced in all of our dealings.

We have no right to be partial or become judges within ourselves for several reasons. First, because God showed us mercy and accepted us when we were poor and needy, we should exhibit the same grace to all men. Secondly, we should be impartial because the Gospel is a “whosoever will” Gospel. Whether you are rich or poor, the Gospel is for everyone. God loves everybody, and Jesus died on the Cross for everybody. A final reason is that we cannot see the heart of any individual. That is the work of the Almighty and not of those who think they are almighty.

Friend, as long as we strive to treat men the way God has treated us, we will be alright. God will judge them and us as well. He will judge us on how we have treated them. I challenge us all to show unconditional love to those with whom we come in contact. If we show them mercy, then we will find mercy!
