“Discrimination Biblically Defined”

James 2:9 KJV

[9] “but if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.”

If there has ever been a word misused and abused in our society, it is the word “discrimination”. Many use this word to their own advantage, disregarding the damage done to those falsely accused. Business owners have walked lightly for years in fear that an employee would file a lawsuit against their business and take them to court over some trivial act of so-called discrimination.

If I sound a little “put out” with the term, it is because I am, and so are many people in our country. Not that we don’t believe it exists, we all know that it does. I do not think that discrimination is confined only to a race of people or sector of a community. The color of a person’s skin or status in society does not matter to me. I have never been in favor of discrimination against any individual. I think that discrimination should be Biblically defined and balanced.

Discrimination is being a respecter of persons. It is a sin to elevate someone because of their financial status or put down someone who is less fortunate. Some of the finest and most intelligent people you will ever meet in life are poor, hard-working people. It is not a sin to be blessed because you work hard and earn benefits. It is not a sin to go to college and earn a degree to obtain a higher-paying job. However, it is a sin to employ an unqualified person ahead of a qualified person because you fear what others may say or do. Friend, that is being a respecter of persons, and that is also discrimination. It is discrimination to punish someone because they are rich and reward someone else because they are poor. Equality means every man has the right to earn his way in life and be treated with respect, regardless of his financial status.
