“Self-Promotion”

James 3:15 KJV

[15] “This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.”

When we promote ourselves, we create envy and strife among others.  It will never uplift our brethren or encourage the weak, and glorifying the flesh never glorifies God. When we strive to be the most popular or number one, it is not of God.

Self-promotion is earthly, sensual, and devilish. The Devil’s goal was to be number one, and he wanted to promote himself above God’s throne. It is so wicked to magnify ourselves! That should be our attitude when it comes to exalting self. We must not be guilty of tearing others down to build ourselves up.

The world was better off without social media. Even though it can be used as a tool, it is often used as a toy. It can also be a weapon to destroy and hurt others. I don’t think Jesus would use social media today. I don’t think He would be interested in promoting Himself, creating debates and arguments, or name-calling and hurting others. I’m not fussing at you if you have a social media account, but I am saying that the world was better off without it. It has given people boldness, caused strife and envy, and has become more of a weapon for the Devil than it has been used for God’s purposes.

Self-promotion has caused us to make celebrities out of singers and preachers. It has built platforms for people that honor men rather than God. It causes us to focus on the earthly instead of the heavenly. One final thought should concern us all; we are like the Devil himself when we promote ourselves. Jesus did just the opposite while on this earth; He made Himself of no reputation. Lord, help us to do the same in this society so that they might see Jesus in us.
