“More Grace”

James 4:6 KJV

[6] “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”

Our verse today contains three truths about the grace of God. The first truth we see is grace promised. God has not only promised to give us grace but to give us more grace. That means that no matter what we face in this life, God has promised to provide the grace to see us through. As believers, we can rest in the knowledge that this grace will be there to help us in times of need, and that God’s grace will never run out! His grace cannot be exhausted, nor can it be extinguished by the affairs of this life.

The second truth in this verse is grace prohibited. God will not give grace to the proud. He will not share His grace with those who choose to trust in themselves. How foolish it is to put our trust in the arm of the flesh. Self-sufficiency has never produced anything but failure. For us to accomplish anything, we must have God’s grace to do it. We know that grace and pride can never dwell in the same place. I remember a quote I read a long time ago saying, “Pride is the only disease that makes everyone sick except the person who has it.”

The third truth we see is grace provided. The humble receive the grace of God. A man cannot be sinless, perfect, or flawless, but he can be humble. God is willing to work with humble people. He will show them grace every time they seek after it. Even when they stumble and fall, they can find the grace to get back up and carry on. The Lord does not limit His grace toward man, but sometimes man limits the grace of God. He does this by refusing to trust or accept God’s grace. Grace is ours for the taking if we will seek it.
