“The Perfect Plan”

James 4:13 KJV

[13] “Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:”

When you read this verse, think about the plan being considered. Think with me about a couple planning a trip and deciding to take a journey to a certain city. They have already mapped out the route and made accommodations to live there for a year.

This journey is not a vacation but a business venture to buy and sell. I can imagine the excitement and anticipation of preparing to leave. There are high expectations for a prosperous year. They believe that the sacrifices made will be worth it in the end. They have faith that the benefits will outweigh any struggles they might face.

There is only one problem with what seems to be the perfect plan. The journey includes gain, but it does not include God. They have not said “if the Lord will allow it,” but they made plans without considering Him in any way. They were so focused on gain that they forgot God.

How many people make this same mistake today? They have what seems to be a perfect plan for their future, but they have left God out of the equation. They did not seek His direction for their lives or pray to get His approval. Remember, your perfect plan is a plan that will fail if it is not the will of God. We must have His leadership in our lives. The Lord knows what each day holds and whether or not we will even be here. He knows if there is even going to be a tomorrow. For these reasons alone, we must seek His guidance. I don’t know what you are planning, but be sure they are His plans for your life!
