“The Earnest Prayer”

James 5:17 KJV

[17] “Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.”

Elijah was not a superman, but he was a spiritual man. He was a man who believed in prayer. He prayed believing, he prayed persistently, and he prayed earnestly. That is how we should pray today for our nation and our churches. Earnest prayer is the greatest need of the hour. May the Lord burden our hearts to go deeper in our prayer lives to be more committed and consecrated to Him in prayer. The greatest power in this world is not horsepower or manpower but the power of earnest prayer.

What should drive us to pray earnestly are the results of prayer. Elijah prayed for the impossible, and the Lord granted his request. He shut up the heavens as a result of earnest prayer. He answered Elijah’s prayer in a way that left no doubt that God was the One who brought about the answer because it did not rain for three and a half years. This verse proves that God answers prayer. It also proves that prayer can do the impossible. Prayer reveals the power of God. Elijah did the praying, and the Lord did the work!

If you desire the Lord’s attention, then earnestly pray. That means to pray believing, with persistence, and pray for the impossible. The same God that worked on Elijah’s behalf still works on our behalf. We cannot afford to trust our efforts, but we must look to Him and pray earnestly.

Dear reader, how is your prayer life? Do you earnestly seek Him for the impossible? Remember that your Heavenly Father is only a prayer away. He is waiting for you to invite Him to help you with your needs. He not only wants to work in the realm of possibility but also in the realm of impossibility! Don’t just pray but pray earnestly.
