Jude 6 KJV
[6] “And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.”
Many believe that the history of these angels on earth is in Genesis 6, where they cohabited with women. The word for “habitation” means a dwelling place. These angels fell not once but twice. They fell for the first time with Lucifer from Heaven. They fell a second time when they went lusting after strange flesh. They are no longer free to roam the earth like other demons but apprehended by God until the great day of judgment and reserved in chains due to their apostasy.
Apostasy always leads to chains and imprisonment. The world would have us believe that rejecting God’s Word and choosing our own way leads to a life of freedom. That is nothing more than a lie of the devil. Look at these angels, and see where rejecting God’s light and doing their own thing has brought them. They are living in the worst prison of all! Chasing strange flesh has placed them in the lowest part of Hell, waiting for God’s final judgment, the Lake of Fire.
Can you imagine going from the glories of Heaven and singing the praises of God to the darkest part of the underworld to be chained and tormented until the final day of judgment? These angels are examples of how far apostasy can lead someone and how terrible the bondage can become.
The imprisonment of these angels also reminds us that God has not forgotten those who reject and rebel against truth. There is coming a day of judgment for every apostate. Our God will have the final say! He will punish those who have corrupted others and led them astray.
