[13] “Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.”
Tsunamis are giant waves caused by earthquakes or volcanic eruptions under the sea. In the ocean’s depths, tsunami waves do not dramatically increase in height, but as the waves travel inland, they build up to higher and higher heights as the depth of the ocean decreases. Tsunamis are raging waves of the sea that cause massive destruction and death.
Jude declares apostates as the raging waves of the sea. Like tsunamis, they bring massive destruction and spiritual death to those who follow them. Apostates have no shame in the lengths that they will go to propagate their false teaching and doctrine. Jude says they are wondering stars and that God will surely punish them for their false propaganda. We must beware of the apostates of our day. We must hold to the truth, preach the truth, and practice the truth so that others might hear the truth.
Apostates are violent in the sense that they come after your soul. They want to indoctrinate you with false teaching and lead you to death and destruction. They are vile because they do not care about the truth and are not ashamed to pervert it. They despise those who believe in holiness and righteousness.
We see this great tsunami not only in our churches but also in our country today. We all love America, but we do not love what America has become. We are seeing the results of removing God from our schools and court system. We now have a godless society experiencing a great tsunami of apostasy. People no longer care about hearing what is true but what is convenient.
These raging waves will continue to destroy the minds and hearts of the next generation. We must stand against apostates by holding up the banner of truth and proclaiming it louder than ever. If apostates have no shame in their false doctrine, how much more should we, as Christians, have no shame in standing for what we know is right? The truth will still set men free.
