“Grace to Come”

1 Peter 1:10 KJV

[10] “Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:”

We know that salvation is by grace through faith. God has shown grace to sinners by giving His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. I’m thankful for the amazing grace of God that reaches down and rescues the lost from the fiery pit of Hell. If you know the saving grace of God, then you have a reason to rejoice.

Not only do we rejoice about the grace received in salvation, but we have grace to come! Peter reminds us that God wants to give us more grace, including grace in times of affliction. These saints faced dark and difficult days. Because of their faith in Christ, many suffered persecution and death. How were they able to abide faithfully under such extreme adversity? The Lord was giving them grace to help in times of need.

He gives us this same promise as believers today. There was grace for last year, grace for last month, grace for last week, grace for yesterday, grace for today, and He will give us grace for all of our tomorrows. We don’t know what awaits us in our future, but we know there will be grace when we get there. There is grace that will come unto us.

When I consider this thought, I think about the life of Peter. He was very familiar with the grace of God. Jesus showed grace in Peter’s life many times as he spoke out of turn. Then, I think about Peter’s death. History records that Peter died a martyr’s death by being crucified like our Savior. History says that he requested to be crucified upside down on the cross. Where did Peter find the strength to die for Jesus? Where did he find the grace to die upside down on the cross? My friend, I will tell you how he did it; grace came unto him! The grace of God did not fail him, and it will not fail us! We should rejoice that God has reserved grace for our future. Let us acknowledge His grace when facing difficulties in life. Trust His grace and lean on it when you are discouraged or frightened by “what ifs” in your life. Every day, our prayer should be, “Lord, give me the grace I need today, and help me to trust your grace for every situation in my life.”
