1 Peter 1:12 KJV
[12] “Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.”
In the Old Testament, the prophets wrote of the grace and the glory that would come. However, they lacked understanding of much of the prophesies that they proclaimed. They knew that most of the events would not come to pass in their day. These men faithfully delivered the messages from the Lord yet never saw their prophecies come to pass.
Consider how blessed we are to live in the church age. We can compare Bible prophecies to both historical and current events. We can understand future events because of what has been written and proclaimed in the past. The Holy Spirit helps us to rightly divide the Scriptures and see what the Lord has spoken in His Word.
Among this, Peter declares that the angels desire to look into these events. Time would not allow us to consider all of the angelic activity in the Scriptures. Just think about how much the angels were involved with the workings of God in this world.
The angels shouted on the morning of creation, and saw the fall of Satan and untold multitudes of their own kind. It was an angel that guarded the gate of Eden. Angels visited Abraham, Lot, Hagar, and Jacob. They assisted in bringing Israel out of Egypt, ministered to Elijah, protected Elisha, and were instrumental in the life of Daniel and many others.
Angels announced the birth of Jesus, ministered to Him in the wilderness, were ready to rescue Him at Calvary, and were present at the tomb. According to Scriptures, angels guard little children and watch over the local church. Angels play a vital role throughout the book of Revelation. They will be very present at the end time events. They are God’s warriors, His messengers, and His worshipers. They desire to look into the events that happen here on this earth. They are present and active in the daily lives of believers. Though we cannot see them, it is evident from the Scriptures that we entertain them unaware. As you go throughout your day, be conscious of this truth. Among the earthly, we are being watched and looked upon by the heavenly.
