“The Precious Blood of Christ”

1 Peter 1:19 KJV

[19] “but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”

Our Savior died “as of a lamb without blemish and without spot”. In the Old Testament, the sacrificial animal had to be perfect. It had to be a male of the first year and selected on the tenth day of the month. The animal had to be under careful watch until the fourteenth day of the month. The animal then had to be killed “in the evening” or “between the two evenings” (Ex.12:6).

The apostle Peter would have been familiar with all of this when he wrote this epistle. Jesus fulfilled every one of the requirements to be the lamb that would take away the sin of this world. Regardless of what some evangelical preachers may teach, it took the blood of Christ to purchase our salvation. They try to water down the Gospel and remove the gore of Calvary by saying that the blood of Christ was only symbolic. They falsely teach that it was the pouring out of His life that saved us and not the actual blood of Christ. The problem with this theology is that it is not in the Scriptures. Our verse clearly shows that God places high value on the blood of His Son. He calls His blood precious! If the blood of Christ is precious to the Father, then it should be precious to His children.

We must not let the liberals cause us to back up on what the Bible teaches about the blood. The blood is on the Mercy Seat in Heaven and applied for all eternity for the sins of humanity. This truth is worth shouting about! The blood of Christ has washed us from our sins and cleansed us from our guilty past. We must hold high the blood-stained banner of Jesus Christ. We must let the world know that there is “a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel’s veins!”

Remember, Christ shed His blood; He did not spill it. Calvary was no accident but predetermined before the foundations of this world. Christ was a lamb slain before the foundation of the world, and He came into this world to go to the cross. Jesus did not live His life unaware of the mission before Him. He walked on this earth, but He was God in the flesh! He knew from the beginning what His purpose on earth would be. Oh, what joy we experience knowing that we stand redeemed by the blood of Christ. My final thoughts today are the words of a familiar song, “What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!” Amen!
