1 Peter 1:21 KJV
[21] “who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.”
Our faith must be in God alone. It cannot be faith in God plus anything. He wants us to trust His Word and His will. Calvary opens our eyes to the great love and sacrifice our Heavenly Father has for us. However, we cannot trust in our faith but in the God of our faith. This mentality is exactly why some people struggle with their salvation. They wonder if they exercised enough faith or put their faith in God at the right time. “Did I say the right words?” “Did I respond the right way?” “Did I do enough when I got saved?” These are questions that lead to more confusion. They are impossible questions to answer because the moment we trusted Christ as our Savior, we trusted Him to save us.
There is only one way to believe the Gospel, and that is by faith. God gives every man a measure of faith, and it is up to him what he does with that faith. Some have put their faith in riches or fame, but born-again believers have put their faith in the Gospel message. Dear reader, either you believe Jesus died, was buried, and rose again, or you choose not to believe it. It is what separates believers from unbelievers. If you believe God raised Jesus from the dead and that He is alive today, your faith and hope are in God.
Remember that our hope is not within ourselves, but it is in our Savior. We have a hope that is steadfast and sure. As the songwriter wrote, “Jesus paid it all and all to Him I owe.” Faith in what Christ did on the cross of Calvary will save your soul.
If you know you have been born again, rest in the Gospel. Rest in the fact that God will keep His promise to His children. Salvation is for us, but it is not all about us! We are not the ones doing the saving, nor are we the ones doing the keeping. We are trusting in the One who saved us and is keeping us. The joy of our salvation is that we can rest in it. There is no need to worry about the record because God is keeping the record. Share your faith with others who have not heard the Gospel by telling them what Jesus has done for you. The more you share your faith, the stronger it will become.
