“A Healthy Diet”

1 Peter 2:2 KJV

[2] “as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”

Today, we hear a lot about diets and the importance of healthy eating. Almost weekly, new diets are coming out, promising a healthier way of life. While many of the diet plans are gimmicks to get us to buy certain products, we can all agree that it pays to have a healthy diet. Keep in mind the old saying, “You are what you eat.” Dear reader, this statement is not only true when it comes to our physical diet but also when it comes to our spiritual diet.

You see, if we feast on carnal things, then we will be carnal. If our diet consists of worldliness, then we will be worldly. If our diet consists of perversion, then we will live in a perverted manner. That is why Peter challenges us that as a newborn babe desires milk from his mother, we should desire the milk of God’s Word. Milk helps the baby to grow and become stronger. It nourishes the infant and satisfies the hunger that is within. I believe many saved people live their spiritual lives malnourished because they don’t take time to digest the Word of God.

It is very important to take something from God’s Word every day of your life. It’s part of a healthy diet. The Word of God will strengthen your soul, provide security, comfort your heart, convict your life, and give wisdom for daily tasks and decisions. Do you take the time to feast on God’s Word each day? Do you have a working knowledge of the Scriptures?

It doesn’t take a baby very long to create a hunger for milk. Once he has tasted it, there is a continued desire for it. His hunger will cause him to cry out for it until he is satisfied with the substance. That is the desire we must have for the Bible.

You might say that your desire is not like that of the baby. Dear reader, open God’s Word and begin to read. Set a time and have a daily goal in mind. Have a direction and know where you are going in your Bible reading. I promise you, the more you read, the more you will hunger for the Word of God. It will give you victory over sin and strengthen your daily walk. Do not neglect the nourishment that you need to live for God in this wicked world. Remember, your spiritual diet is more important than your physical diet. Many have died spiritually, because they feasted on the things of this world rather than the truths of God’s Word.
