1 Peter 2:9 KJV
[9] “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”
The good news is that God is not through with the Jew! Israel is a nation despised by this world but chosen by God! This holy nation will one day rise from the pain and persecution they have endured to be the nation above all others. Jerusalem will be the capital of this world, and Christ will sit upon the throne of David and rule for one thousand years.
The church will be active in those days as the Bride of our beloved Savior. We will enjoy peace on earth and the dawning of a new age. The nation of Israel and the church will show forth the praises of Him who hath called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. What a glorious day that is going to be.
We must note that Israel had a ritual priesthood, while we, as the church, have a royal priesthood. Jesus abolished the priesthood of Israel at Calvary, and Christ became our High Priest. We have been made priests and kings unto God. Through the blood of Jesus, we have access to the throne of God.
Today, we can come boldly into the presence of God to pray for our needs and the needs of others. An animal sacrifice is no longer required because Jesus Christ was the final sacrifice for us. The blood is still on the Mercy Seat in Heaven, and we are a part of this royal priesthood. I’m glad we don’t need a pope to pray for us. We do not need to confess our sins to a priest to obtain forgiveness. We can go directly to God and take our needs before Him with the assurance that He will not turn us away.
We can rejoice that we have come from darkness into His marvelous light. What a joy to live in the light of God’s Word. We know all of this is true because the Bible teaches it to be so. Think about where you used to be and what you used to be, then praise Him for where you are today. As believers, we must show this light to a world that is still in darkness. We must live in a way that honors God and points people to Jesus. Find someone in darkness and show them the light of Calvary. Help bring some poor lost soul out of the darkness and into the light. Walk in the light of His Word today and rejoice in the blessing of salvation.
