1 Peter 3:6 KJV
[6] “even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him Lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.”
We all know Abraham was a great man of faith, as we have read about in the Old and New Testaments. He had lapses of faith just like other men, but through it all, he trusted God in some of the most difficult times imaginable. Abraham was not alone in his journey of faith because his wife, Sara, was by his side.
Sara was a great woman of faith as well. Think about the faith it took to allow her husband to take their son Isaac and offer him to God as a sacrifice. She was trusting God and trusting her husband. She was a spiritual woman, but sometimes her faith was weak. We have all failed to trust God in times past, but I am thankful He chose not to discard us when our faith was not as strong as it should have been.
Sara is known not just for her faith but for her obedience to her husband. She would not be accepted by many in our modern society, nor would she agree with many of the viewpoints about the home in our world today. For Sara, life was humbly trusting God and following her husband wherever the Lord led him. Nothing is more precious than a wife who loves and supports her husband. They are like Sara of old.
When a woman questions and doubts her husband, she will reap bitterness in her home. Even if the woman is right, she must ask herself if God would be pleased if winning the argument resulted in her being out of her place. She may think her husband is doing the wrong thing, but Abraham erred, and Sara still followed him.
I am not saying to follow your husband off a cliff that would destroy your home. I am also not saying to follow him into sin or sit by and never voice your thoughts or opinions. If a man loves his wife, he wants to know her thoughts regarding matters in their lives, but there are times when it is best to obey and pray. Allow God to work in your marriage, and remember that your responsibility is to be in submission. His responsibility is to lead the home. If he makes a wrong decision, the Lord will speak to him and reveal it. Your husband needs to hear God’s voice rebuking him instead of yours. Having said all of this, I am very grateful for the godly ladies of today who are like Sara of old. You can see the strong faith that they have both in their God and their spouse. What encouragement to those young ladies who are coming up behind them.
