“A Fair Trial or Free Pardon?”

James 2:13 KJV

[13] “For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.”

We have often heard people say, “Life is not fair.” We all know that God is the Giver of life, so if we say life is not fair, it is the same as saying that God is not fair. Christians believe in the providence of God. We know God is sovereign and providentially works in the affairs of men.

The Lord does not judge based on fairness, but He judges based on mercy. If we got what was fair, then we would receive only judgment for our sins. There would be no pardon, peace, or protection from God. His mercies are new every morning in our lives, and we should rejoice every day that God has extended His mercy toward us. His mercy will cause us to walk humbly before Him and our fellow man. It will develop a character of compassion toward others who are struggling or those who may have done us wrong.

If we demanded a fair trial, then we would be condemned to die and sent to Hell. Instead, we get a free pardon because God is a merciful judge. In return, He expects us to show mercy on others. Find someone to show mercy to today. Be aware of individuals that God places in your pathway. Remember, if we are unmerciful, then God will judge us in the same light. But, if we show mercy toward others, then God will bestow mercy on us.

God bestowed the greatest act of mercy toward mankind at the Cross of Calvary. Yet, there was no mercy shown toward our Savior. He did not receive a fair trial, was wrongfully accused, and then crucified. God placed our judgment on His Son so we could have mercy and a free pardon.
