1 John 5:5
[5] “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?”
There are those who ask the question, was Jesus even real? Did he really exist? Is he nothing more than a myth? While history proves that Jesus lived upon this earth, some still choose not to believe in his existence. They would rather deny the facts, and live in ignorance, than to face this reality. They fear if his existence is true, then everything else about Jesus could be true. These truths are more than some unbelievers want to deal with, so they just deny him altogether.
Then there are those who say he did exist, but he was just a man. He was nothing more than someone who went about doing good and caring for those who were in need. They believe historically he existed, but have no faith in his spirituality.
Others teach that Jesus not only existed historically, but that he was a prophet. He was a teacher who was able to perform miracles in the name of the Lord. They place him on the same level as Moses or Elijah. They teach that he was the son of Mary, but he was not the “Only begotten Son of God”. Their denial is just as damnable as the rest.
The Bible clearly declares him to be the “Only begotten Son of God”. He is God in the flesh, and the Savior of all men. This is a truth that cannot be denied. Our verse makes this clear, as well as many passages throughout the Scriptures. From the Book of Genesis to the end of Revelation we can see Christ as who he is. I’m thankful that in a world filled with doubt, there can be no doubt about it! Jesus is the Son of God!
