“Unspeakable Joy”

1 Peter 1:8 KJV [8] “whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:”       The word “unspeakable” only occurs here and speaks of a profound and overwhelming joy that we cannot express in words. It is a joy that overflows the believer’s heart and life. It is a joy that is full of glory. The Christian life is a life that you must experience. We can try to express to sinners why we love Him so much, but they will never understand until they …

“The Trial of Your Faith”

1 Peter 1:7 KJV [7] “that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:”      Peter declares that the believer’s faith is a precious faith. The trials of life develop our faith and make it stronger. They have a way of bringing priorities to the surface. They allow us to forget the unimportant things and focus on the things that matter. Trials point us to our only hope in this world, and that is …

“Manifold Temptations”

1 Peter 1:6 KJV [6] “Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:”      In our verse, “manifold” means “all kinds of” trials and temptations. The word “heaviness” means “grief”. Peter is encouraging saints who are walking through great tribulations. Nero was on the throne, and the world was not a safe place for Christians to live. They were being persecuted and tortured for sport daily.      Peter reminds them that it is normal for Christians to feel grief, especially in such a trying hour. The child of God feels …

“The Power of God”

1 Peter 1:5 KJV [5] “who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”      I’m so thankful for God’s saving power but also His keeping power. It is such a blessing to know that we have an eternal salvation because our God is eternal. We will live for eternity because He will live for eternity. We rest in the knowledge that He is keeping us by His power and not our own.      This truth is why we know that works do not save us or keep us saved. …

“An Inheritance Out of This World”

1 Peter 1:4 KJV [4] “to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,”     To be saved from the fiery flames of Hell is enough for every child of God to shout about. What a joy we have as believers to know that we will never have to face the awful pit prepared for the Devil and his demons, and we do not have to fear the Great White Throne Judgment. The lake of fire will never be our home! These thoughts alone bring comfort to the saved.      But God has much …

“A Lively Hope”

1 Peter 1:3 KJV [3] “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,”       The word translated as “blessed” comes from the Greek word that gives us our English word “eulogy.” It means to praise something or someone. Here, God is being praised for our salvation and redemption. What a joy to know that salvation is provided and is ours for the keeping! There is no greater blessing than to know you are redeemed. …

“The Foreknowledge of God”

1 Peter 1:2 KJV [2] “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.”      You and I have no idea who will be saved. We understand through the Scriptures that it is God’s will for all men to be saved. That means that all men can be saved, if they repent and believe the Gospel. We wholeheartedly reject the false doctrine of Calvinism. No one becomes a Calvinist from reading the Bible. The only way to become …

“Strangers in This World”

1 Peter 1:1 KJV [1] “Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,”      The name Peter comes from the word “petros”, which means stone. Peter is writing to Jewish Christians scattered among the Gentiles. He begins this epistle by listing the five providences of Asia Minor, north of Palestine. It is interesting that verse one starts with Peter the little stone, then moves to Jesus Christ, the great Savior, and finally to the scattered strangers in this world.         The world has not changed its philosophy about Christianity today. They …

“Our Wise God”

Jude 25 KJV  [25] “to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.”      Our verse is the only place in this epistle where Jude calls our Lord “Savior.” Peter used this title five times, but Jude began by reminding us of the common salvation. He now brings it down to the climax for every soul that reads this epistle, can you call Him your Savior? It is not enough to say that Jesus Christ is “a savior” or “the savior”, but we must say along with Jude in this verse …

“How to Keep From Falling”

Jude 24 KJV [24] “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,”      If we make it to the end of our journey without falling into sin or false doctrine, it will be all because of Him. To be able to stand in His presence faultless with exceeding joy will also be because of Him. We cannot accomplish either of the truths in this verse by ourselves. Thank God that what we cannot do, He is able to do through us. Relying on …
